Dyami and the Gobi Crystal

An Allegory and Fantasy Adventure

A Narnia-like world with a power-hungry queen and king

Dyami is a junior angel, assigned to a planet as watcher where magical beings teach the gentle Dukán fantastic abilities. Like a reporter, she must document events onto her gobi crystal to save them for eternity. She wants to be the perfect watcher, which means not interfering in mortal lives. Her specialty is time travel, which is as easy as breathing.

Her mentor is a shape-shifting dragon. In her travels, she angers a grumpy sorcerer and makes friends with a quirky fairy.

She falls in love with the Dukán who can dance mid-air or grow ripe strawberries in seconds. However, their perfect lives are boring as every day is the same. A visiting king and queen promise them excitement and change if together they build a new domain. As Dyami feared, the royals soon make the Dukán slaves.

Dyami's heart breaks seeing her new friends suffer, while foreign emotions like fear and anger overwhelm her. If she interferes, she risks being punished and banished from the angelic realm.

This fast-paced adventure uses allegory and fantasy to discuss duality, the Tree of Life, and viewing outside time. It's perfect for those who enjoyed children's classics like The Chronicles of Narnia or A Wrinkle in Time.

Dyami

Courageous and Daring

Dyami wants to appear confident and never show weakness or uncertainty. When the Naga manipulate and enslave the Dukán, she has difficulty remaining detached. Her greatest strength is her greatest weakness. She wants to be helpful. The more she gives, the more the king takes. She participates in a coming of age adventure to understand morals and to master her emotions.

Radella

Sextant and Best Friend

Radella summons magical creatures to teach amazing things like how to fly. She wants to be helpful, using her sextant talents. She's the perfect friend through good times and difficulties.

Tutls

A spunky fairy

Tutls is a spunky, independent forest fairy who plants wildflowers and helps animals. The other fairies tease her because she's often covered in mud. She doesn't listen to them because she has more important things to do than wear pretty dresses and brush her hair.

Theli

A World-building Dragon

Theli is a magical, shape-shifting dragon who creates stars and planets. He mentors Dyami and helps her understand the world. Everyone could use a friend like him.

Master Emerice

The Distant Sorcerer

Master Emerice is a cranky sorcerer on a distant planet who wants to be left alone. He dislikes strangers, especially those who may steal from him. He responds by throwing fireballs and yelling profanities like "pond scum!"

King Vratt

Controlling and Manipulative

King Vratt's a self-appointed, militant Naga king who collects technology and gold because he wants to be powerful. He assesses every situation by how it benefits him. He turns everything into a weapon used to control others.

Queen Adira

Demanding and Cruel

The beautiful Naga queen seeks a population that is both adoring and obedient. She invents make-believe adversaries to terrify the population, then poses as their defender. She'll go as far as killing to get what she wants.

The Ideal Reader

This fast-paced adventure uses allegory and fantasy to discuss spiritual themes including fortitude, grace, and forgiveness. Dyami journeys from the angelic realm to an earth-like world. After multiple challenges and discoveries, she returns home with a newfound purpose. Dyami and the Gobi Crystal is as a single drop of honey of ancient spiritual wisdom from the Jewish and Christian traditions. Hopefully, it wets the reader's pallet to digest more on their spiritual journey.

This novel was designed for eleven+ year-old readers and their parents who love fantasy. Her best friend is a sextant who communicates with elemental dragons and forest beings. People die, but there is no explicit, bloody gore. In the most intense scene, Dyami feels shame for what almost happens to her, even though she wasn't to blame. This is a story about finding one's truth in a chaotic world. It is a story of hope, even in the darkest hour.

Dyami collects Akashic records onto a recording device resembling the Lemurian record keeper quartz. The Dukán surround themselves with music, laughter, and sharing. The Naga are a self-serving, militant reptilian race who become stranded on the planet They feast on fear of those they terrorize. Dyami meets advanced beings in other realms and times. She learns deeper truths about the Naga and their motives. The novel was inspired by the concept "Givers and Takers" in the internationally acclaimed book Ishmael by Daniel Quinn.

The imagery is so clear that you can almost smell the scents and hear the sounds around the main character. I had access to read it before I physically was able to have the book. The story is so refreshing. You won't find these kinds of storylines in other fictional books. The characters, the concepts... I cannot wait to physically hold the book as it will elevate and brighten the reader's surroundings. May I even say it is better than Narnia books!
